Fukushima, Japan
Abandoned Farm Animals left behind, to Starve to Death! The Farm animals in Fukushima were simply abandoned. Left behind to die a slow agonizing death of starvation. Government did not allow anyone to bring them food or water. More than 650,000 chickens, pigs, cattle, orstriches, etc were killed by government during first month after disaster. Unlike the dogs and cats that were rescued, no one was allowed to enter to save these farm animals. Local animal advocates in Japan decided they could not just sit back and allow this to happen. Wanting to spread awareness they created an exhibition in Tokyo, Japan. Reports Yumi, "I put the articles about the exhibition and meeting with livestock farmers, who came all the way from Fukushima, taking for 5 hours drive, just to attend our event and tell people the truth of euthanasia and killing by government. Seeing my photo on newspaper, Zushi Mayor, legislators, and some medias came to see them, too." From the questionaire at the exhibition, almost 100% people wrote: 1. all animals should be rescued immediatelly and allowed to live on. 2. although they didn't know about sanctuary or foster parents, they want to know learn more. 3. they hope to see the exhibition of poor animals more. 4. althoug hthey didn't know Fukushima disaster well, seeing photos, they thought government has to stop killing for any reasons. 5. the donation was 40,000 yen (5,000dollars) for 2days in such a small hall.
Kachiku-Otasuke-Tai.org. But we hope all cattles safety. We want to let the government stop killing cattle. They have been killed NOW. Please let them stop killing and save them NOW or they will be dead.

One of them said sobbing, "Please know how much we have suffered losing our catlle, home and everything. Government forced to kill our animals but most died of starvation. We want to save at least the survivors, and please help us save them all. As we cannot be allowed to feed them, they are dying in such cold days."

Yumiko Nakamura, a member of Japan Farm Animal Rescue,"Kachiku-Otasuke-Tai.org", has worked for saving abandoned animals left behind Fukushima. "Just because the farm animals are the same victims like humans" There are more than 20,000 people victims because of the Eastern Japan disaster. But they were not the only victims...but hundreds of thousands of livestock, like cattle and pigs. As a member of "Kachiku-Otasuke-Tai", which was launched in order to save these lives, she has asked for help to the government and started the petition-site to people. She also held the photo exhibition in Zushi, Japan, "The abandoned farm animals left in Fukushima",showing the truth of animals starve to death and killing this January, and this could get much attention and her photos were put on papers. "Actually, many innocent animals have been killed by humans. I want people to know the truth." Skeletal Cattles that have been remained tied with chain in the barn, and pigs that looked for water and died drowning in the pond. All photos were too distressful to look straight, but they were all truth. She has been to Fukushima after the disaster and she found the great damage after Fukushima Nuclear Powerplant disaster. And then she has worked hard for saving them, "I wonder if we can find a way to make them alive even they are regarded priceless creatures." But unfortunatelly the government never stopped the killing them. "I think the most important thing on earth is a living's life. I cannot ignore humans selfishly destroy these lives, that is breaking my heart" She is also an editor of web magazine, which appeals for saving cetaceans. She once was a public officer but she determined to work for saving animals of the world the rest of her life. As she loved animals since a child, "I often brought abandoned cats and dogs in my home and I was scolded by mom" said smiling like a girl. She has a dream. She hopes to build the 1st sanctuary in Japan for abandoned animals and ones would be killed. "It is my tiny dream and it may not come true. But I hope to take care of those abandoned until my end.It may be very difficult for humans to live with all animals, but I continue to do my best in order to make a new amazing world in which we live together" |
Comments from one of the advocates:
"Here is the video, showing the killing of pigs in the evacuation area the other day.
I cannot forget their screaming,"We don't want to die!"
