SOUTH AFRICA - DURBAN
Durban SA decided for their WEEAC Event. They would gather people to volunteer to help 2 organizations that they chose. In this way they hoped to raise awareness to the needs of the animals, and to who WEEAC is and what we are about.
They chose to help Second Chance Sanctuary.
And Out of the Blue Animal Rescue
The day was so successful. That as a result. They now have other animal rescues and sanctuaries asking if they can be next!
Thank you to the organizers of this Event:

OUT OF THE BLUE ANIMAL RESCUE
Thank you Liz Freitag and all the Volunteers...
Out of the Blue has been rescuing neglected and abandoned animals for over a decade. In 2010 they officially established a non-profit sanctuary in Assagay.
At present, they provide a safe haven for 44 horses, 13 donkeys and 34 dogs. None of these animals are re-homed, but are instead given a chance to live out the rest of their natural lives in peace and serenity.
Spread across 52 acres of lush land, and no paddocks or enclosures, the horses and donkeys are free to graze together, without any boundaries.
The farm house is an open door for any of the residents who wish to come inside for a treat or just to say hi! From an 18.1 hand shire to 10 hand ponies, and of course, let’s not forget about the donkeys!
VOLUNTEERS FOR THE DAY:
On the 22nd of September, WEEAC volunteers will spend the day helping to reconstruct and repair the stables and barn, as well as mend broken fences, clean up around the yard, and help with other odds and ends.
In addition volunteers were asked to help fulfill Out of the Blue’s wish-list by bringing along any of the following items:
* Medical supplies and other essentials, for example, bandages; cotton wool; scissors; antiseptics (Dettol); wound care products (like Iceman cooling gel); hoof oil; dip; shampoo; etc.
* Dog food (tin/dry)
* Cat food (tin/dry)
* Blankets, dishes, toys, and other “nuts and bolts”
* Horse feed
SECOND CHANCE SANCTUARY
Thank you Mia du Plessis and to all the Volunteers who helped out!
Founded in 2008, Second Chance Sanctuary is a non-profit, pro-life organisation based on the Bluff in Durban.
They currently home, nurture and care for cats that have been rescued from severe abuse, abandonment, trauma, neglect, and
other horrific acts inflicted by humans. Many of these cats are special need cases, have physical defects, and are terminally ill.
The cats do not live in cages and have free access to roam wherever they like, as long as they stay in the perimeter of the yard.
To keep them confined, cat proof fencing as well as a low voltage electric fence have been installed to prevent the cats from leaving
the safety of the sanctuary.
VOLUNTEERS FOR THE DAY:
On the 22nd of September, as well as spending some one-on-one quality time with the feline residents, WEEAC volunteers will
assist with deworming and flea-treating the cats.
Volunteers assisted with mending the cat proof fencing, by fitting brackets to the palisade fence for large PVC (cat proof) piping.
They also built cat posts, scratch polls and other outdoor kitty furniture.
In addition, volunteers were asked to help fulfill Second Chance’s wish-list by bringing along a can of food or cleaning product, or
any of the following:
* Tinned food (all brands welcome)
* Frozen mixed veggies
Note: Dry food is sponsored
* Floor cleaner
* Dishwashing liquid
* Paper towels (Carlton rolls)
* Second-hand books for book sale
